Our idea of cocktail attire is "on the rocks" or "with a twist," so we usually turn to our fashionable FOKs when we need style advice. Over Coachella weekend, that FOK happened to be designer Phillip Lim, whose pool party featuring spiked Kanon snow cones was one of the weekend highlights. As you can see from the photos here, we picked up a tip or two from stylish party-goers like Alexa Chung and Garance Doré as well. But perhaps being surrounded by so many lovely faces this past weekend has made us a bit greedy, so we did what anyone would do–we hit Mr. Lim up for more about his Coachella experience. Was this your first time making the trek to Indio? How did the weekend live up to expectations?
No expectations, every moment felt like the first moment. Fun at first sight.
Your pool party really got us in the mood for summer. What's on your summer playlist?
The Hurts, Concretes, Dr. Dre, The National.
Coachella is a style mecca for the boho-chic. Any chance it might inspire future collections?
Yes, but I'd like to make it less boho and more chic.
Who's desert style were you most impressed by?
Theo Hutchcraft (The Hurts). I mean, tailored Hawaiian shirts? Enough said.
As a designer, you often get asked about your inspiration for your collections, but how would you describe your own personal style?
Buttoned up to get down.
Our poolside party with you was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend. What tips can you offer for throwing a memorable soiree?
Be spontaneous, don't over-plan. People can sense the artificialness.
What's your vodka cocktail of choice?
Kanon's Basil Lemonade cocktail.
So will you be headed back to Coachella next year?
Maybe... Like I said... be spontaneous.
