  • Taste Testing Kanon Vodka Cupcakes With Sugarlaws

With the number of events we go to and the number of people we meet, sometimes you need that one person to stick by you all night, through thick and thin, vodka on the rocks or vodka straight. Monday we had the pleasure of attending the launch for Charlotte Ronson’s new makeup line with one of our favorite bloggers, Katy Atlas of Sugarlaws. We ate, we laughed, and best of all- we drank some delicious Kanon cocktails while toasting Charlotte’s new beauty collection. Did we also mention there were cupcakes made with vodka? Kanon Vodka, specifically. We’ll let that soak in. Cupcakes. Made. With vodka.

But here’s Katy’s take on the night and even the delicious cupcake recipe from Desi Lu Sweets, who created our new favorite dessert. Try them and let us know what you think.

From Katy: There are three things I love about New York: the food, the fashion, and the cocktails. Monday night's launch party for Charlotte Ronson's makeup line was overflowing (literally) with all three.

The party started just as the sun was setting over the Williamsburg bridge, when an amazing group of fashion and beauty editors, socials, and friends of Charlotte ventured over to Hotel Chantelle on the Lower East Side to sip Kanon cocktails and scope out an early preview of the makeup, inspired by Charlotte's friends and "muses" (my favorite: an eyeshadow palette in glowing neutrals named the Nicole after Nicole Richie).

And the best part? The vodka cupcakes crafted for the event by Desi Lu Sweets, colored blue for Kanon. The vodka flavor wasn't overwhelming -- like Kanon, it was smooth and totally delicious. Waitresses passed them on trays as the guests headed downstairs for the afterparty, and they disappeared fast. I was able to gulp down one (ok, two) before the trays disappeared, and let me just say -- if a vodka cupcake doesn't cap off a meal perfectly, nothing does.

    Vanilla Kanon Vodka Cupcake Recipe:

1 stick of butter, room temp

    1 cup sugar

    2 eggs

    1/4 cup milk

    1/4 cup Kanon Organic Vodka

1/2 cup of all purpose flour

    3/4 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

Shift dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add 1/3 of dry ingredients to wet and blend together with a mixer. Combine 1/4 cup of milk then add  another 1/3 of dry ingrediants, blend again. Add  1/4 cup of Kanon Organic vodka. Blend in the last 1/3 of dry mix until batter is smooth and all lumps are gone. Bake at 325 degrees. Test by sticking a toothpick  in the middle, if it comes out clean then your cupcakes are done.
