We always enjoy sampling a well-crafted cocktail from our forward thinking mixologist FÖKs, but once in a while we get a hankering for a little vintage inspired imbibing. Lately we've been feeling the Moscow Mule: a mouthwatering mix of ginger beer, lime, and vodka, this 1950s favorite has experienced a recent resurgence in some of New York's hottest restaurants and watering holes. We've searched high and low and compiled a list of our favorites to assist you in some former-Soviet-style sipping. Cheers!

The Raines Law Room, 48 W 17th St.

This intimate, dimly-lit Flatiron speakeasy has some of the swankiest decor in the city, as well as an expertly mixed Mule. In true prohibition era fashion, waiters are summoned by flipping a switch next to the table, offering patrons a sense of privacy perfect for dates. And make sure to get a good look at the wallpaper (ideally after a cocktail or two... trust us).

    Dutch Kills, 24 - 27 Jackson Ave (Long Island City), (718) 383 2724

It's not often that we venture out to Queens, but the drinks at Dutch Kills make the trek well worth it. This hidden gem boasts some of the smartest mixologists in all five boroughs, and at only $8 during happy hour (Sun-Thurs, 5 to 7 PM), their Moscow Mule makes for a killer after work treat.

    The Standard Grill, 848 Washington Street, 212 645 4100

A great artist once asked, "What's in a name? That which we call a Moscow Mule by any other name would taste as sweet." Perhaps this is nowhere better realized than The Standard, where the so-called famous Pennydrop, mixed with a splash of house-made cordial and fresh ginger garnish, packs a seriously delicious punch.

    Russian Tea Room, 150 W 57th St, (212) 581 7100

In keeping with our go big or go home mentality, one might argue that there's nowhere more appropriate in New York to enjoy a Moscow Mule than this iconic Midtown landmark. Prices are high and the decor is lavish (verging on kitschy, even), but their "sophisticatedly dry" Mule streaked with ginger puree is well worth the strain on your wallet.

    Momofuku Má Pêche, Chambers Hotel, 15 W 56th St, (212) 757-5878

We really have nothing bad to say about David Chang's uptown Asian fusion haunt. Food and service par excellence in a simple yet elegant atmosphere lured us in originally (okay, so the Milk Bar downstairs didn't hurt either), but a couple of the bar's signature Moscow Mules with fresh ginger syrup kept us there and in high spirits for a little longer than we'd like to admit.
