There are few better feelings than that first sip of a really delicious cocktail from one of New York's finer watering holes, especially when you take a step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Now we know there are a lot of crazy concoctions out there in the concrete jungle, but luckily we've tried quite a few and after careful deliberation wish to share our favorites with you. Without further ado, we present five Kanon cocktails to try this holiday season.
The Lift Ticket at The Standard Grill, 848 Washington St, (212) 645-4100
From our rave reviews of their Penny Drop, to our many late nights at Le Bain, it's no secret that we're pretty much obsessed with anything The Standard turns out. With cucumber, lime juice, elderflower liquer, and kaffir lime powder, we're filing this amazing concoction under the category "unexpected green substances that'll get you lifted."
The Ramp Up at Almond, 12 E 22nd St, (212) 228-7557
Mixologists at this warm new American hotspot have given the classic Gibson a fresh new twist. Kanon Organic Vodka, vermouth, and pickled ramps served up make for a mean martini you don't want to miss.
The Casino Royale at Rubirosa, 235 Mulberry St, (212) 965-0500
It may have been the famous vodka pies that first brought us to this Nolita hotspot, but a couple of these delicious cocktails had us parked at the bar a little longer than we'd intended. Our smooth Vodka melds perfectly with the sharp taste of Tanqueray, while a bit Cocchi Americano adds a warm splash of color to the Casino Royale.
Guava Suave at Pulqueria, 11 Doyers St, (212) 227-5997
When the weather outside is frightful, we love to warm up at this downtown Mexican speakeasy owned by our friends at Apotheke. With fresh guava nectar, muddled guava leaves and lime, we like to consider this cocktail one daily serving's worth of fruit.
Paris Drinking Blues, Soho Grand, 310 W Broadway, (212) 965-3588,
We often affectionately refer to this cocktail as "the reason we don't remember the Lykke Li afterparty." Amaretto and pineapple juice impart a sweetness, which is perfectly cut by a splash of lime juice and spicy house-made cardamom syrup, and of course Kanon.
