As 2011 comes to a close, we're taking this Friday afternoon to reflect on how truly amazing this past year has been. Just a couple of years ago, we were a new brand on the U.S. turf and no one but the Swedes could differentiate between what a Kanon Vodka and a Canon camera was. Fast forward to, well, now – and we're hopeful that you've at least heard our name, or better yet tasted our smooth flavor. What a journey it's been. If there's one resolution we have for the new year, it's this: that you (whomever and wherever you may be) will get to enjoy Kanon this year. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Before we officially ring in 2012 with a Twinkle cocktail in hand, take a journey back with us through our top 10 memories of 2011.

    1. We Hosted the First Blogger Livestream
For the AW 2011 Fashion Week season, we were determined to top ourselves yet again, and that we did. To prove that we're not only knowledgeable about vodka (we're tech savvy too!) we hosted the first ever blogger livestream on Kanonvodka.com with the one and only Bryanboy. From shows to fashion parties to hotel rooms and beyond, we followed the outspoken blogger through it all and let you ask him questions along the way. Take a look back to relive some of the highlights.

    2. We Starred In a Music Video
If you follow Swedish songstress Lykke Li, you probably remember the release of her "Sadness Is a Blessing" video back in April of this year. But what you might not remember is that the vodka she was downing shots of in between dance moves? Yeah, that was us. Us Swedes stick together through sadness AND happiness.

    3. We Brought Midsummer Across the Atlantic
Until this past year, most of you would probably assume that the term "Midsummer" was referring to the mid-point of the summer season – not so. In actuality, it's our favorite Swedish holiday, and we were thrilled to bring the festivities to the States this year. With parties in both New York and LA, we DIYed floral crowns, danced around the maypole, and clinked cocktail glasses with friends well into the night. A success indeed.

It’s not often you get to be a professional fly on the wall. But that's exactly what we've been over the past few days. We decided to station ourselves at our 8th floor Kanon bar (curated by Apotheke) at Milk Studios this week, to try and catch the fashion crowd's reactions to our libations firsthand. And really, we haven't been disappointed. If you’ve been following our Twitter feed, you know we’ve had quite an eclectic and completely awesome crowd of fashionistas, editors, and generally good looking folk (hello, Ed Westwick) come through and taste our delicious designer-inspired cocktails over the weekend.

What do you get when you combine color-blocking, Aztec patterns and Theophilus London? The S/S 12 collection from Carlos Campos, obviously (which we plan on wearing all day, every day when it gets warm again). We pried ourselves away from the Kanon Bar yesterday (harder than it sounds!) to learn about the designer's creative approach, music inspiration, and where to get the best tacos ever--since we've already got vodka on lock. Enjoy.

Kanon Vodka: What was your inspiration behind today's collection?

Carlos Campos: When you see the colors you think Incas, Mayans, Aztecs. I’m from Honduras and I wanted to bring those elements into New York. Like you see with the patterns on the shoes. My Father was a sailor, and I wanted to deconstruct all of the pieces that I’ve been making for many years. Like take a jacket and make it into a shirt. The shirt is treated like a jacket, but with very light-weight cotton fabrics. I developed my own colors and fabrics. You know when I make a mistake, it’s very consistent. You know, I do it myself.

  • Talking Fashion Week With Costello Tagliapietra

Fashion Week is rolling by and we're making sure the fun doesn't stop. In between pumping fashion's finest full of delicious Kanon cocktails here at MILK, we took some time out to speak with our favorite plaid-clad lads. Jeffery Costello and Robert Tagliapietra. The duo behind Costello Tagliapietra showcased their collection of ladylike silhouettes, done in super sick deconstructed florals, on Friday. We caught up with them after their show to talk inspiration, music and, of course, cocktails. And we're pretty confident that we've converted Robert into a vodka guy--because we're just that good.

Kanon Vodka: Hi! We’re with Kanon Vodka, those crazy kids who have a bar upstairs. Congratulations on the show. Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration for today’s collection?

Robert Tagliapietra: We started with the word romance and, you know, the idea of the return for us to a romantic, feminine collection. It filtered into this floral thing where we were really exploring florals for the first time and really wanted to abstract them and remove the quality but still have the essence of creating little flowers.

KV: How do you two work together to create a cohesive collection?

Jeffrey Costello: Everything is each of us; it’s all equal!

  • Talking Fashion Week With Bleachlondon

We're not going to lie – we get a bit envious of the people who can pull off ridiculously amazing colored hair. Just because our only color streak is the blue stripe on our bottle, doesn't mean we don't appreciate getting a little creative. Which is why we especially admire the ladies of Bleachlondon, Alex Brownsell and Samantha Teasdale, who are the masterminds behind some great heads of hair out there – ahem, like Florence Welch and Sky Ferreira. While they're in town for New York Fashion Week and styling up some 'dos in the Milk Studio pop-up salon, we picked their brains on go-to products and hair dos and don'ts. Plus, we're giving away one free session from the duo at the end of Fashion Week – so stop by the Kanon bar and check out our menus to find out how you can win. Good luck!

Kanon Vodka: Did you always want to be a hair stylist or is it something you fell into?

Alex Brownsell: I grew up in a hair salon that my mum owned in the Midlands, UK so I was kinda born into it.

KV: How did you two first meet?

Bleachlondon: At a club night in London called Smash and Grab!

For the most part, our days of basement parties and sneaking alcohol are behind us. So when we ended up in a sweaty dance party in a basement last night, surrounded by random couches, various art work, disco balls, hip people, and a band, we felt a bit out of sorts. But after 5 minutes of Milk Studios’ Jam Session last night, we were taking in the “That 70s Show” basement scene like pros.

Set up as an intimate space for bands to play throughout the week, last night's Jam Session featured Australian psychedelic band Our Mountain. As if the band’s look wasn’t hip enough (think beards for miles and a serious rocker vibe), gorgeous model Abbey Lee Kershaw also happens to be part of the quartet. Legit eye candy, for sure. When we weren’t swaying and sipping on a Spicy Pear cocktail (organic pear juice, organic lemon juice, jalapeno extract, and of course Kanon) or trying all the drinks on the menu (research, people), we were attempting to navigate through the tiny space and rubbing elbows with cool kids like Chelsea Leyland and Faran Krentcil –  and mostly camping out in front of the fan to cool off post-dancing. Here’s a look at our night in photos – don’t worry – no one’s parents were coming to crash this party.

  • Make Our Milk Made Kanon Cocktail

    Kanon_drink2a

It's pretty typical of the Kanon mindset to try and top ourselves over and over again. And while we don’t want to jump the gun in saying this, we think we may have already succeeded in doing just that for this Fashion Week. On top of all of the amazing Fashion's Night Out events we'll be sponsoring tonight, we're spending the entire week at MILK Studios jamming to the jam sessions, checking out the shows, and perhaps most importantly – serving five delicious cocktails inspired by some of our favorite designers and crafted by master Apotheke mixologist Nick O'Connor. But in the off chance that your zipcode is out of New York City bounds, Nick created a very special drink that you can easily make at home while still feeling in on the NYFW action. But mostly we just wanted to make a cocktail that had Milk and Kanon in it, because sometimes it's fun to get literal with a partnership, no? Milk made Kanon…get it?

    Ready your cocktail shakers!

    MilkMADE Kanon

    2oz Kanon Organic Vodka
    1oz Milk
    1oz Vanilla Soy milk
    1/4oz Honey
    1/4oz Fresh Lime juice
    Pinch of cinnamon

To make: Measure all ingredients except cinnamon into a shaker. Add ice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass. Garnish with the pinch of cinnamon
