There are few better feelings than that first sip of a really delicious cocktail from one of New York's finer watering holes, especially when you take a step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Now we know there are a lot of crazy concoctions out there in the concrete jungle, but luckily we've tried quite a few and after careful deliberation wish to share our favorites with you. Without further ado, we present five Kanon cocktails to try this holiday season.

The Lift Ticket at The Standard Grill, 848 Washington St, (212) 645-4100
From our rave reviews of their Penny Drop, to our many late nights at Le Bain, it's no secret that we're pretty much obsessed with anything The Standard turns out. With cucumber, lime juice, elderflower liquer, and kaffir lime powder, we're filing this amazing concoction under the category "unexpected green substances that'll get you lifted."

After sending Andrew Steinthal and Chris Stang of Immaculate Infatuation to an Armory Arts Week dinner, then to Ward III to craft their own personal cocktails and THEN asked them to come up with their own version of Friday Fives, we had one final challenge for our FOKs to complete: attempt to make our favorite Rubirosa vodka pizza…by hand. Apparently tossing dough isn't as easy as it looks. But you should probably get the scoop from the guys themselves. Here's what they had to say:

In coming up with some fun concepts for our Kanon guest blogs, one of the ideas that came up was to throw us behind the counter and learn how to make Rubirosa's well-known vodka pizza, which is often made with Kanon. Since we're always down to get our hands dirty, this was a no brainer. Also because Stang worked at Sbarro for like three weeks in high school and he wanted to re-live the glory days.

If this was an Infatuation competition, Stang and his high school pizza skills would have won hands down. Steinthal's pie was a mess and wound up tearing into pieces before it actually made it to the oven. Oh well. Despite our amateur attempt, the Rubirosa vodka pies came out tasting incredible. Without a doubt, this is the best vodka pizza we've ever had (and we made it ourselves). Even better than our former favorite, Pomodoro, the original Nolita vodka pie pioneers.

We know we’re not the only ones excited that it’s the weekend. Time to catch up on sleep, catch up with family and FOKs and treat ourselves to one delicious meal around the city after another.

While that’s a pretty stacked lineup, our favorite part of it all has to be Sunday brunch, which is basically a New York institution unto itself – and we aren’t ones to mess with tradition. We may get the Sunday blues thinking about the Monday ahead, but then again, at least we can escape these thoughts with a nice cocktail in hand and a hearty meal placed before us (please note the order of importance in that sentence). Here are just a few of our favorite spots to get both your booze and your brunch on. A very beautiful combination if you ask us.

    The Fat Radish

    17 Orchard Street

    (212) 300-4053

Try their spicy eggs on avocado toast with bacon while you sip on a Kanon Bloody Mary for a Sunday pick-me-up. The menu consists of mostly vegetables, so by osmosis you shouldn’t feel too guilty having a cocktail (or three).

    Rubirosa

    235 Mulberry Street, New York

    (212) 965-0500

Though Rubirosa might seem like an unconventional approach to brunch (you won’t find eggs and toast here), the thought of vodka pizza after a long Saturday night is a welcome digression from our typical eggs benedict order. Plus, we’re always sitting behind the bar, so order up a cocktail and call it hair of the dog.
