  • Relive The Weekend with Exclusive Spotify Playlists

    Coachella

Every year after music festival season we basically go into a music high for about 4 weeks straight. And this year, it's been made all the better by our new Spotify app where we can actually listen to the songs hand selected by our fave bands and artists who played and partied with us this weekend. Think Housse de Racket, our weekend party partners Noise Pop, record label Kitsuné, and blogger Kristin Reiter who launched her new iPhone case over the festival weekend. And just in case you're scheduled for weekend 2, we even have a kickass playlist from our fave music blogger Diana Miller designed specifically for your drive down to Indio. Enjoy, and let us know what you think on our Facebook page or Twitter

  • Swedish Blog Discobelle Shares Their Favorite Music With Kanon

    Discobelle_-_vertical_-_black

If you haven't checked out Swedish music blog Discobelle, you're seriously missing out. But we're happy to be the ones to make the fateful introduction because once you get involved, it's bound to be on your daily reading list from here on out. Since starting back in 2006, Discobelle has become one of the leading sources for new music, featuring everything from techno to hip hop to house and more. Plus, they often post exclusive mixtapes that will rejuvenate your iPod on a regular basis. In just the last few years, the blog has expanded into a full-blown digital-only record label.

So why do we care? Well, for one--we're hosting an awesome party with them in Malmö, Sweden at a place called Belle Epoque night. And two--they've been kind enough to put together a rocking Spotify playlist for us with jams hand-picked by their team. Check it out HERE.

  • Come Check Out Our New Spotify Tab on Facebook

    Harryos_sundance2_diggy

    Mia Moretti

The great thing about drinking cocktails is that it can be done while enjoying various other activities--one of our favorites being listening to great tunes. Which is why we've been obsessed with the new Spotify since the minute it launched. Since this past weekend's Winter Music Conference was all about bringing the best artists and DJs to one place to celebrate (read: party until 5 AM), we thought we'd merge the two into an awesome new tab on our Facebook page. Drumroll please...introducing our official Kanon Spotify tab filled with playlists from DJs like Mia Moretti, Penguin Prison, Cougarskin and from our friends at Kitsune and The Standard Hotel. Because instead of wondering what those mixmasters are listening to from beneath their headphones, well, now we know. Check out our Spotify tab to explore and discover new music, then send us a tweet to tell us which new music you liked best.

    Cheers!

    Phil-limmmm

One of our main Fashion Week goals each season is to bring non Fashion Week goers insider access--hence this year's NYFW Instagram Viewer, the tons of cocktail recipes we post from our events, and party photos up the wazoo. Now we bring you this. Incredible designer Phillip Lim also happens to be a FOK (that's friend of Kanon for any of you newcomers)--so naturally there are perks to this relationship. Like getting hold of his exclusive track list from his A/W 2012 runway show. Close your eyes, take a listen to the tracklist below, and imagine you're sitting front row next to Anna Wintour. You know what they say about the power of visualization.

  • Interview with a DJ: Kim Foxman Shares Her Go-To Songs and Cocktails

    Kimfoxman

DJs are some of our most in-the-know friends. Think about it--they know all of the music you've never heard before, they play at all of the nightspots you want to frequent, and more often than not, they love a good cocktail. Good thing for you, we know a lot of DJs... and we like to share. We've tapped Kim Foxman of Hercules and Love Affair, the DJ of our out-of-control "NYFW is almost over" party for Last Magazine at ACME. From cocktails for all occasions to the song that's guaranteed to get people on the dance floor, Kim is sharing her secrets to an awesome night out. Read on, friends, read on:

Kanon Vodka: What's the one song you play that always gets people on the dance floor?

Kim Foxman: One of my deep moment jams has always been Coco Steel and Love Bomb's "Feel It" - that goes for getting me on the dance floor too.

KV: As a West Coaster now in New York, what do you find are the biggest differences in the music scene?

KF: West Coast has a more hippie vibe, while the East Coast is definitely a more urban vibe. Both are good for their own reasons. My years in San Francisco were the years I really partied and at that time everything was underground. So for me that music is always going to be special, and I’ve found a lot of inspiration from the music and moments of that time. In a way, I find SF to be more free--people are not afraid to really let loose there, and I love that. It's really about the music.

New York is a bit harder to get a real vibe going on music. Sometimes it’s about more of a social thing, but when it's done right, it's great--when it’s really going off. I love it because of the people. New York is loving dance music more and more again, so that makes me happy, as when I first moved from SF, I was let down because that was not the case.

KV: Any favorite moments from the Grammy's this year?

KF: I totally missed it. I was traveling and I still haven’t seen any of it. It’s on my to-do list.

  • Swedish Band to Watch: Fibes, Oh Fibes!

It's almost the holidays and we're starting to miss our homeland: SWEDEN. So we've connected with the sickest band in the land, Swedish rockers Fibes, Oh Fibes! to bring you the song you'll be playing during all of your parties this year. Drinking and dancing. Two of our favorite things.

We hosted a party with the Fibes, Oh Fibes! guys to celebrate the release of the music video for their new (and totally infectious) single "Cerahtonia." They sing, "how can I be sober, when you're having fun?" Obviously, we have it on repeat. We're all about breaking boundaries when it comes to new ways to party, and this time was no different. Partygoers were given iPods and headphones, preloaded with "Cerahtonia," so they could dance and drink Kanon in their own zone--a silent disco if you will. Let's be real, parties aren't a place for conversation. Everyone loved it.

Check out the video above to see exactly what we mean when we say "silent disco," and follow the link below for an exclusive free download of "Cerahtonia." AND don't forget to check out the awesome interview we did here with the band's singer Christian Olsson. You're SO welcome.

KV: For someone who hasn’t heard Fibes, Oh Fibes! before, how would you describe your music?

CO: Someone said this a while back and it’s the perfect description in my opinion: Burt Bacharach on speed.

KV: You’ve worked with some other very well known Swedish artists/producers on this album. How did that happen?

CO: On the new album, ”Album,” we worked with Pontus Winnberg from Miike Snow as a producer and had John Eriksson from Peter, Bjorn and John playing the drums on the first single ”Cerahtonia.” Pontus actually produced half of our last album while working with Miike Snow. We’re all from the same town Lerum, outside of Gothenburg, so we’ve known each other for a while. And this time we decided to collaborate on the entire album.

We consider a great playlist to be the backbone of any great party. Case in point, last week’s opening of the new Uniqlo store on 5th Avenue had music from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and a live performance by Santigold. Mix those two set of tunes with a delicious Kanon cocktail served at no less than twelve bars in the store (#neverforget), and how could we not have a blast? But to keep the good times rolling well after a great party, it's helpful to find out what the music sources themselves have playing at home. Lucky for you, we're delivering that straight from Miss Santigold herself. Here’s a look at her very own playlist, crafted especially for Kanon.

    Santigold playlist:

    Beach House, "Lover of Mine"
    Fela, "Zombie"
Spank Rock & Big Freedia, "Nasty"
    Lykke Li, "Time Flies"
    Amadou & Miriam, "Beni Dakan"

  • Toasting to Miguel Migs' New Album "Outside The Skyline"

    Migs

After our adventures this year checking out the occasional music festival like Coachella and Escape to New York, downloading playlists from friends and FOKs, and getting down to fratastic jams during Fashion Week, we’d venture to say we’re pretty much “in the know.” So when a music-oriented party comes around, we’re there and ready to get down, cocktails in hand. This week we're toasting one of our favorite artists, Miguel Migs, on his new album Outside The Skyline in Los Angeles and wanted to sit down with the house music veteran on his influences, collaborations, and even his favorite spots around LA and the world. Cheers to Migs on his new release – we can’t wait to include more of his tracks on our party soundtracks!

Kanon Vodka: Congrats on the launch of your new album, Outside the Skyline. What's your favorite track from it?

Miguel Migs: Thanks. It’s pretty tough to choose a favorite track as it really depends on my mood, but I do love “Tonight” and never get tired of that song for some reason. I guess that’s a good thing!

KV: Where are some of the places you get your musical inspiration from?

MM: I get inspiration everywhere and from all types and styles of music…everything from Steely Dan to Fleetwood Mac, Prince, The Stones, Erykah Badu, Steel Pulse, D’Angelo, Sade – the list goes on and on and on.

As excited as we are for the flurry of fun that fall brings (stay tuned for some exciting NYFW announcements!), it all means the end of summer. The winding down of lazy days at the beach and cocktail-filled rooftop parties makes us a bit depressed in all honesty – which is why we've tapped DJ Frankie Inglese to create the ultimate end of summer playlist for us. It's essentially the most perfect mix of chill rock songs ever. See for yourself.

Fix yourself a drink, plug those headphones in, and enjoy.

When it comes to the Swedish music scene, we’ve got it pretty much covered lately. We’ve been hanging out with FOK Lykke Li on the regular and introduced the fierce duo Icona Pop to you all last week. This time, we’re taking it one step further and introducing you to a band that is so brand spanking new, that we got to see them at their first show. EVER.

But these guys aren’t your average rookies to say the least. So who are they exactly? Markus Krunegård, celebrated Swedish solo artist and Adam Olenius from Shout Out Louds (who not so coincidentally played at Kanon’s Midsummer party in Stockholm last year!). Now they've teamed up to start the very anticipated band, Serenades.

As of late, we’ve been all over the music scene. Whether being overwhelmed at Coachella or getting the opportunity to see fellow Swede (and FOK) Lykke Li on both coasts, we’ve seen some pretty amazing acts lately.

The best part is, we’re getting to know a lot of the new up-and-coming talent, especially those coming out of our homeland. And we're pretty positive we've found the next big thing in pop duo Icona Pop. We know, we know– we're suckers for anything Swedish, but we promise you, you won’t be able to get enough of the catchy dance tunes from Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo. Just try listening to their single “Top Rated” without getting up and making some moves. We dare you. And yes, this vodka likes to dance.

As if their catchy beats and Swedish spirit weren’t enough, the two love their social media just as much as we do. Last week, we threw a party back home with the duo along with record company TEN, which ended up being one big dance party (our famous shot machine may or may not be to blame). We also sat down with Icona Pop to talk about music, how social media has helped them connect with fans, and of course– what they'll be up to for Midsummer (21 days!!).

So tell us a little bit about yourselves.

We are Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo a.k.a. Icona Pop. We met about two years ago randomly through a friend, at a time when we both were bored with our lives and decided one late night that we were going to startwriting music (as you do sometimes at 5 AM after a night out). But we actually managed to follow up on it and decided to book a gig two months later so that we had a deadline to work towards with our music. We are both so restless and live in our own worlds, so that gig was the thing that triggered us to create music.

How would you describe your music?

From the beginning, it could have been described as Sugarbabes meets Quentin Tarantino, but from there it has evolved and become more edgy; a bit more electro with a lot of hard rolling drums. It’s always a dilemma when people want to know if we want to do more indie or more pop, but we just tend to go for it and see where we end up.
