Put a beach, some waves, some surfers, and a few attractive girls in front of our photographer and a pretty picture he will paint. Well, photograph. He’s one of our favorite photographers at a time when everyone’s headed to the beach armed with a Leica and a dream.

What better guy to document the Saturdays Surf anniversary party. And what better girl to team with him than model Jessica Hart. Although, as much as we love Shaun, you can pretty much team Jessica with anyone and we’d be feeling good about it.

If you haven’t gathered by now we’ve got a soft spot for renaissance men. This past weekend was pretty much confirmation of such as we hosted a gaggle of dudes (and girls) that can’t really respond to the question “What do you do?” in five words or less. Same goes for FOK (Friend of Kanon) Timothee Verrecchia.

Tim is a creative director, photographer, and all-around idea man. If that’s a bit vague for you, every time you eat at Café Gitane at the Jane, you’ll have Tim (as a founding partner) to thank. Tim was present at this past weekend’s Saturdays Anniversary party at the Kanon house. Omnipresent, if you will. And if you’ve never seen party pics from an omnipresent level, here you go.

If you find yourself walking down Crosby Street, down what is quite possibly the quietest block in Soho, you might see a lot of surfboards and seemingly beach-bound dudes. This is no hallucination. For the past year--exactly one year to be precise--Saturdays Surf NYC has served as the de facto capital of New York City’s surprisingly diverse surf scene. On any given day, you can find Josh, Colin, or Morgan, fresh from a morning surf at Rockaway, hanging out, making espresso, or showing off the latest goods from their eponymous line. Except for this weekend.

We stole them, along with a couple hundred of their very best friends, and hosted Saturdays’ very first anniversary. There were boogie boards careening off diving boards, fresh coconuts spiked with our very own blend, a Beetlejuice-inspired conga line, and a whole host of New York legends (Ricky Powell anyone?) sharing tales about the good old days. All to the legendary sounds of Chances with Wolves. Saturdays in house photographer Colin Tunstall was there to capture it all from day to night with his signature style and aesthetic. Hang ten, kooks.

Get all the noise about surfers’ just drinking crappy beers and downing fish tacos by the dozen out of your dome. Thems is stereotypes. Fish tacos are good, granted, but the guys at Saturdays have discerning tastes when it comes to cocktails. Resident mixologist Stefanie Marco concocted some crazy recipes just perfect for the post-pool cool down. Watch/listen/read and learn kids.

    Kanon H20 (pictured above)

    2 oz Kanon Organic Vodka

    1/4 oz fresh lime

    2 oz coconut water

Mix and serve (preferably in a coconut)

    Watermelon Crush

    2 oz Kanon Organic Vodka

    2 oz fresh watermelon juice

    1 lemon slice

Garnish with a squeezed lemon slice.

    Saturdays Kanon Punch

    2 oz Kanon Organic Vodka

1 1/2 oz passionfruit juice muddled with three leaves of fresh basil

Serve with a splash of ginger beer and squeeze of fresh lime

To call the Saturdays guys irreverent would be quite the understatement. You get the feeling their parents were constantly yelling at them about swimming after eating until one day they all decided to run around the pool and jump off the diving board one after another. Well, Morgan, Colin, and Josh might not have, but all their friends did. Besides, they were busy hosting one of the best parties of the summer. Check out our little intro video (footage shot by Jauretsi Saizarbitoria). More to come…

One of our most favorite FOK's (Friend of Kanon) ever ever ever, Elizabeth Spiridakis, the prolific and cool-as-hell blogger from Feels Like White Lightning, came to our Saturdays Surf party this weekend, and not only did she take a bunch of pictures for us, she guest-wrote our very own exclusive post. Read her version of the party here--trust us, she probably had the most fun out of everyone period. From Elizabeth:

Have you ever had an enormous luxury bus full of capital C Cool people pull off the L.I.E. and wait just for you to catch up to it in your yellow cab, just so you can roll with them to the Hamptons? No? I have. This past Saturday. It's about as mortifying as it sounds.

The first sets of pictures from this weekend's wild Saturdays Surf 1-year anniversary party are rolling in and they look pretty awesome, if we do say so ourselves. These shots come from FOK (Friend of Kanon) and filmmaker/writer Jauretsi Saizarbitoria, who was on hand during the event snapping away for the Saturdays boys.

The party started out at the Saturdays surf shop/coffee shop in SoHo where a bus picked up a load of guests to transport them out to our Southampton house where they were greeted with leis and coconuts filled with potent Kanon Organic Vodka cocktails--a perfect beginning that culminated six hours later in a sunset conga line around the pool set to Beetlejuice's "Jump in Line" led by Saturdays partner Josh Rosen, who was fist-pumping bottles of Kanon in the air against the backdrop of a huge outdoor film screen playing classic surf movie Endless Summer. Sound awesome? It was.

Jauretsi does a darn good job capturing the best moments of the day, including the impromptu diving contest that happened, with each diving trick better than the next. The Saturdays guys actually started surfing boogie boards off the diving board at one point, a spectacle that was accompanied by cheering and howling coming from a group of hot, bikini-clad babes sitting around the pool. Remind us to save that in our bag of tricks.

All in all, it was an epic good time--the drinks were flowing, dancing was nonstop, and the collective of DJs, Chances with Wolves, played an impeccable set of rare gems. Ricky Powell even joined the party, holding court by the pool all afternoon, entertaining guests like Elizabeth Spirodakis from White Lightning and Mikey Palms, owner of South Paw, with stories about old New York.

It doesn't get much better than that.

P.S. Stay tuned for more FOK guest posts from White Lightning, Colin from Saturdays Surf, Shaun Hartas with model Jessica Hart, and more.

  • FOK Guest Blogger: Bronques from Last Night's Party

Yesterday, we hosted a party for Saturdays NYC Surf's 1-year anniversary at our humble abode in Southampton, and just like our 4th of July soiree, it was a blast (to say the least). The Saturdays boys splashed into NYC with their rad beachwear/surf shop/espresso bar/outdoor garden deck experience in SoHo one year ago. They have since built a loyal community of generally awesome customers, friends and Kanon drinkers. Everyone hearts them, and it showed. A bus full of party people came rolling up to the house around 4 PM and by 4:07 PM there were Kanon Organic Vodka drinks served in coconuts, music blasting, people diving into the pool, pigs roasting, and loads of ridiculously attractive folks roaming around making eyes at one another. If you missed it, here's a wink for you..

Since one of those attending happened to be our favorite 'photo instigator' Merlin Bronques, he became a FOK for the weekend (that's Friend of Kanon, for those of you who are new readers). Bronques is the founder and photographer behind Last Night's Party, the infamous website that documents the inner workings of NYC and global nightlife, no matter how debaucherous... Bronques shot a video for us, using nothing but his iPhone. IMPRESSIVE- It's artsy and real and fresh. Just like the man himself. Watch it over and over and yes, she is flirting with you..just you.
