We met all sorts of cool kids during our week at GOODNESS--one of which is our new foodie friend, Leo Forneas of Robert (you know, that restaurant with the killer views overlooking Columbus Circle). Now, we’ve tapped the chef to give us his secret tips for keeping things sustainable in the kitchen. Read on to find out the dishes he craves during springtime and his secret ingredient for seasonal cocktails.

On how to accomplish a sustainable, locally sourced way of eating at home:

Buying produce at Union Square Market--the best day to go is Saturday. Also, they have seafood products from Long Island and a great selection of meat products from the surrounding Tri State Area.

On the seasonal dishes he craves in the Springtime:

Asparagus (from the Union Square Market), poached eggs and truffles or heritage crispy bacon.

On the best seasonal ingredients for crafting cocktails:

Kumquats--one of the citrus fruits that hasn't exploded in popularity.

Here at Kanon, we like to keep you in the loop. We're always telling you about the best parties, the best DJs, and the best cocktails for your sipping needs. We thought it might be time to let you get to know US a little better. It's time to let you see the real Kanon.

    1. We're Clever: Kanon isn't just a name we dreamt up one day. A long, long time ago we created vodka for the workers in the Akers Styckebruk cannon factory--thus "Kanon" was only fitting. Obviously we've got serious street cred in Sweden having inspired the cannon makers needed by the Swedish army. So tough.

  • Sustainable Shopping with Bryanboy and Rumi Neely

While we are firm believers in the power of cocktails and good times, we're also all about the power of going green. Not to toot our own horn or anything, but one of the best things about us is that we're 100% organic and sustainable as well. And if we can get some of our friends and FOKs to get a little greener too? Well that’s just the icing on top of the (organic) cake.

Case in point: we recently encouraged FOKs Bryanboy and Rumi Neely of fashiontoast to give us their own take on sustainability. Their destination of choice: the mecca of vintage fashion, Soho's What Goes Around Comes Around. Check out the video to learn more from Bryan and Rumi about why wearing people's old clothes is one of the coolest ways to look new again.
